What could this piece of bright blue with letters NE be from?

Bright Blue Beach Glass?

This piece is approximately 1/2 inch wide there is clearly a "N" in the middle, I believe followed by an "E" we found it at Tower Beach in Winnetka, IL.

It's the first piece we found with lettering, and my son is very curious to have it identified!
