Simmons Beach

Rate the beach: excellent plus

Dogs are allowed.  Watch the high tide.  I spend hour to 2 hours collecting a quart size bag of premium glass.  I want to know why we have more & better quality than anywhere in the U.S.

What you found was slag glass. I was there a month after you. The beach you were at was Bay furnace. In the 1880's they mined iron ore out of superior and the slag (impurities) would be scraped off the top. Because it was mostly sand it turned into glass after solidifying. There was 3 different colors that typically came from this area. Blue, green and purple.

Melted glasd
by: Rebecca

I was glass hunting in Munising Michigan along lake superior and I found a ton of this Greyish purple melted sea glass.

How would something like that happen?

Simmons Beach of Kenosha
by: Susan

We have a sailboat we keep in Kenosha and collect glass every Sat and Sun morning from Simmons Beach and what we call the dirty beach. We find lots of glass each time we go. How do I post pics.

Beach Glass in Kenosha
by: Miles

My best day of marble hunting was on the northern beaches of Kenosha.

Six total marbles with one of them being a half-marble.

I've never found great glass in Kenosha, but the beaches south of Milwaukee are incredible for bulk glass and marbles!

Why no more reports? :>(
by: David and Lin from OdysseySeaGlass

Like Ruth, we are amazed that, with the excellent beach glass reported, there are no photos of any beach glass from Kenosha that we have been able to find.

So this is a call to y'all who live near or visit the beach in Kenosha to share some of your photos with all of us.

It would be greatly appreciated!

Surprised
by: ruth

I am shocked that no one has confirmed the excellent rating for Simmons & Penoyer beaches in Kenosha WI.

I will soon be moving to Florida where there will be an abundance of shells but no beach glass so I have been pleading with friends to send me their findings here in Kenosha.

There are days when the rough waves cause sand to cover the rocks where the glass settles but more often that not we find plenty especially early morning approximately 5-6am.

It's probably because we are one of the first ones on the beach. O thoroughly enjoy this addicting hobby.
