Sea Glass Pieces - What are They?

From opaque yellow to black sea glass to cobalt shards, help identify these beach finds.

One of our viewers, Therese, asked about identifying some sea glass she had found.

She described the lettering and color but I requested some photos if possible.

In response, she sent these two photos which show pretty clearly the markings.

I admit I'm not the expert on bottle identification and I know some of you have a lot more experience.

The one thing I can't quite tell is the size of the shards. However, from the size of the frosting and some chips, I'm guessing about an inch and a half.

Let us know what you think they are from.

(MDI Maine)

Question by Andrea - MDI Maine

I found a piece of sea glass with raised flowers on it. It is not sea through, but doesn't appear to be see-through.

Its black, and not frosted ...but looks old. Any ideas?

I found it in Gouldsboro Maine. I'm trying to figure out how to get a pic uploaded.

We had never collected Sea Glass when we traveled to Maine . The rocky shores of these beaches make it easy for it to get trapped as the tide rolls in.

Can anyone help to indentify
by: Anonymous

I can't see the bottom very clear.

Check and see if you find any type of number or letter on it.

A lot of pieces like this will have one or the other and sometimes both.

The number will give year, and the lettering can tell you who made it.

PLUTO
by: SEAGLASSDOG

Hi there, this is Nick aka...Seaglassdog, I recently sold 2 of these seaglass bottle bottoms on ebay and it was a "Pluto Water" mineral water bottle.

This bottle was put out by the French Lick Springs Hotel Company, a corporation of French Lick, Indiana.

They were fined $50 in 1909 by the Food and Drug Administration for false advertising and under filling their bottles.

The label claimed the bottle held a quart but it actually held only 1.6 pints. The bottle comes in at least two sizes.

Company also ran a resort on the property where people, believing the mineral water would have health benefits would both drink it and bathe in it!

Hope this helps!!....Nick
