Information on the Sidney, British Columbia beach area:
As you can see on the map above, Sidney is on the inland waterway side of Vancouver Island.
Its position, like many of the nearby San Juan Islands, is pretty much protected from significant wave action (see more about the importance of wave action and fetch).
Because of the lack of sufficient fetch (wind distance over water) and resulting minimal wave action, the beach glass found along these beaches is usually not very tumbled, leaving it looking "new," "not done," or "raw."
Given a long-enough period of time, however, with even small wave action and the natural process of sun and water on the glass surface, some decent sea glass is produced.
That being said, Sidney and surrounding Vancouver Island have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
If you ever get the chance, take the ferry from Anacortes, Washington, USA, to Sidney. Be sure to have your camera's batteries charged and ready to go!
