Hi,
Autumn leaves are falling here in the Pacific Northwest, but the weather has been pretty good for the beach. I don't know what it's like where you live, but I'm sure that there are changes in your weather, and weather changes generally produce good conditions for sea glass hunting. Lin and I went to North Beach, Port Townsend today to get some exercise (sea glass was just an excuse right?) with very good results. Lin was so excited about finding a marble and also a tiny blue glass bead. Both had been hiding out on in the rocky shoreline for a good long time. You see it hiding in the rocks? Kind of? Sea Glass Marble found by Lin This is a well-worn marble. One surface was actually flattened somewhat. There are bubbles in the glass. The blue is transparent, the white is opaque. On the way back, Lin saw a blue speck up at the high tide line in the rocks. At first she thought it was a small piece of sea glass. When she picked it up, she saw the hole and realized she had found a real rare bead. Sea Glass Bead found by Lin It is opaque and cobalt blue with specks. It's very small. I wasn't near her to get a photo on the beach, so the photo is taken here at home under a lamp - not the best conditions for a photo, buy hey, it turned out OK. Again, how does Lin see these little tiny things nestled in the rocks, especially when the rocks are wet and all kinds of colors??? Who knows how she does it; and me, well, I'm glad she does! :-) We picked up a lot of sea glass. The tide was very strange at North Beach. Today, the tide was low at 8:55 a.m., 3.6 feet; high tide at 3:11 p.m. of 8.8 feet. Then drop of over 9 feet to a low tide of -0.7 at 9:35 p.m. These tides will be even more drastic with the tidal difference going over 10 feet this month. Tides like these really scour the beach, going way up to the top of the beach and dropping way down. We caught it in the middle somewhere, but there was a lot of surface showing, and we could see a lot of stuff had been turned over by the high tide. Good pickin's!

Well here are a few pics. I found 2 pieces of clear, an olive green color, I have collected sea glass for years in Dunkirk, NY while visiting. I love making things with it. I have made table tops, hot plates, and most prized Hi I would be really grateful if anyone could help me identify this piece of red sea glass. This is for the exterior of the house in a coastal, saltwater Oh!! Parents can be funny creatures, especially the 2 legged kind. I thought my life was about going down the local park for walkies; Isn't that September, 2011, school was begun in many places and less people were at the beach (those with children of school age mostly). For us with no kids at home, September is a good month with less beach-goers. It was also a good month for the Odyssey Sea Glass Photo Contest... For September, 2011, we happily announce the winner - "Colorful Memories" by Giselle Savoie of Ste-Madeleine , Quebec, Canada. Congratulations Giselle! Following is the list of runnerups for the contest. Check them all out! "Arranging the Finds" "I Heart Sea Glass" "Good Enough to Eat" "Sea Glass Collection" Note- the photos on the contest page are ordered according to latest comments, not by month. To see the photos for a certain month easily, use the Search box in the right column on Odyssey's home page or other page. For example, entering "September 2011" should bring up all the month's photos. Also, you can go back and add a vote for a photo of any month as "sea glass photo of the year" to be compiled when? ...the end of the year :-) NOW - it's time to get your photos in for October 2011 digital photo contest. Don't wait too long - the earlier you get your sea glass photo in, the more chance of picking up votes! Reminder - The photo contest is for unmounted sea glass; that is, not made into jewelry or crafts (your arts and crafts sea glass photos can be uploaded at Sea Glass Art and Crafting.
