Hi,
Lin Schneider is our live-in sea glass expert
(i.e., wife) and sea
glass jewelry designer. She writes:
After
all is said and
done, it seems I'm having a really bad flare of the CFS/fibromyalgia
which has
kind of interrupted my activities a bit.
At any rate, we did get to the beach
last week for a little
walk. The beach is 4 times the size it was during Dec-May. It's an
amazing change
but unfortunately you can't find any sea glass either. There's just too
much
sand. I guess we'll have to wait for December.
Other
news - I did my
first silversmithing and was pretty happy with the results considering
it's
been over 30 years since I've held a torch.
I also got to do
a few pieces with PMC and am learning what it
can and can't do.
I learned it is definitely better to
wait until the piece is
completely dried out and not get impatient
and torch it too soon like I did. They blow up!
;-)
As far as drilling sea glass, we're going to have to wait
until we can locate a collet that is the right size.
When I bought my Dremel in
the states before moving, I just assumed it would have what I needed.
Wrong.
The collet is too big for the small
drill bits for glass. Frustrating. I'm not sure
we can locate one here, and if we can't, we'll have to wait until
David's son
and family come for a visit.
There's been a lot of activity with
sea glass festivals and
sea glass being in the news. Did any of you get to go?
It even made it into the New York
Times. Definitely
a growing hobby. How can it not be, right?? Once
started, you're hooked. Oh,oh.
So what have ya'll been up to?
