Hello All,
Good
day to
all! The news from Haiti is on all our minds, and our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones as well as those seriously injured and affected by the quake.
There really is no way to avoid these natural disasters and each of us could be affected in the future in our own areas. It makes one think,
"Am I mentally prepared to lose all my material goods? What can I do now to prepare to carry on if something like Haiti were to happen in my region?
Here in the Southern Hemisphere, things are quiet for now, at least in our neck of the woods.
The title phrase for this newsie letter is from the Beach Boys song
"Surfin' Safari." That line is followed by "everybody's learning how," which applies to me. In this case, it's relearning, as I hit the waves (better said, they hit me) on Friday for the first time in 11 years.
It really was too big to be paddling out there and my arms just about fell off. But time and patience will pay off.
As stated last letter, if you are a surfer, check out YouTube for Cabo Blanco, Peru,
which is about 30 minutes from here. It's a world class surfing spot.
For you beach combers and sea glassers, how have things been going with you?
We'd love to hear more from you as far as beach stories. Even beachy stories not about sea glass per se are very welcome! Lin posted one on her cowrie shell find on our "Coffee Break" page, as you will see below.
We are all awaiting spring and summer with those nice days...except for those of you that we see (from photos) actually doing the beach glass treasure hunt with snow on the ground, etc, who don't let the weather stop you!
On the other hand, here, we are in summer now. Right now, as I type up this blogette, it's 7:30 a.m. and 80 degrees with the windows open. We can can just get a glimpse of the ocean out our window and hear the waves a few blocks away crashing on the sand.
With the El Nino conditions this year, the Pacific coasts are getting drenched. We are expecting a lot of rain next month. With the desert-like conditions here, heavy rain washes out all the gullies, which replenishes the glass sources. Even now, big waves are uncovering various treasures!
Since we rely 99% on you folks to send in your on-the-spot reports from all over the world, please keep on sending them in. Crafts photos, too!
Now, our greetings to you died-in-the-wool beachglass fans in far away countries. This week, we say hello for the first time to you in Lithuania (Sveiki gyvi), Senegal (Ndio ko yong), and the Marshall Islands (Yokwe yuk).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a little reminder to check out the upload features on "Catch of the Day,", where you can contribute your photos on what you find at the beach today (tonight, tomorrow, whatever). It works so smooooooth.
If you have more than one photo you would like to share, feel free to send us an email by clicking on the pic of us above.
For this week, we would invite any of you to share a short story of your beach impressions (funny, sad, or exciting) and get a link to the website or blog of your choice.

15, 2009, Searching and FINDING Seaglass Information
Wow! How do
you ever find what your looking for on this site? With over 170 pages
of photos and info, it is impossible to remember where you saw what!
Believe me, I
know! I have used the search box at least 3 times today to find
information I know is in there, and I WROTE THE DANG PAGES!
So be SURE to
make full use of the search box with the link below. BOOKMARK the
searchbox page. It works GREAT and has gotten a lot better at finding
specific words and phrases.
This is a probably (at least to me) the most
important page on the site...but then again, my memory is shot ;-).
Anyway, I hope you find the search feature as
helpful as I do!
