If you take a stroll along the beaches of Tasmanias Eastern shore eg Sorell, Lauderdale, Bellerive and, if you keep a close eye out along the shoreline, you are bound to pick up a few beach glass finds.

I have been fortunate enough over the past 20 years to accumulate a collection for myself - mainly browns, greens and clear glass, with the occasional mauve, blue and black.

Some of my glass dates back over a century, back to a time when the ships and barges used to deliver goods and services to the early white settlers.

Due to rough seas, high tides and cyclonic weather, much of the broken glass, crockery etc that was dumped overboard has gradually found its way to our shores.

Beach glass, Bellerive Beach, Tasmania
by: Winifred

We visited Bellerive Beach, outside Hobart, and found a few pieces of glass along the beach. More beach glass can be found among the rocks at the east end of the beach. There was nothing unusual, brown, green, white, but it was fun and we did find pieces to take home.

Hi Anonymous from Tasmania.

As far as I am aware there is no group in Tasmania for people who collect beach glass and other sea treasures.

That doesn't mean that we can't start something!

You can find me on Facebook as Sammi Strecker.

Let's start a conversation about our passion.

Cheers
Sammi

Sammy I would love to belong to a Beach Combing group for sea glass sea shells or driftwood here in Tasmania. I live in the Southern Beaches area.

Bather's beach, Freemantle, Australia
by: Patricia Wynne

My husband just got back from Australia and brought back a bag with about 2 pounds of seaglass, collected at Bather's beach in Freemantle.

Top Tassie Treasures

Great collection Sammi,

Thanks for sharing your finds with us all.
Love to get down there one day and stroll along some of the beaches.

Mum used to own a pub over on the east side of the island at Pioneer.

Visited her once and fell in love with this beautiful piece of the world.

Hope you find heaps more on your skulking adventures.

Cheers,

Marylyn
