High Island again was a treasure trove!

~ submitted by Kay Carruth from High Island, Texas, USA

High Island again was a treasure trove of stuff from
  • Pottery shards
  • Bonfire glass
  • 300+ pieces of sea glass
  • Ceramic insulator
  • Teeth from a mammal of some kind ??
  • An intact sand dollar
  • A pretty piece of a Coke bottle and
  • Some pieces of blues.
I did not take any pics of the clear & many shades of green glass.

Looks like a buffalo tooth I once bought in Montana
by: Anonymous

I can't be sure, but it resembles a buffalo tooth I bought in Montana at a rock shop in Choteau in the 90s. I suppose it could also belong to some kind of cattle...

The Gulf gave up her bounty!!!

~ submitted by Kay Carruth from High Island, Texas, USA

The Gulf gave up her bounty!!! My best trip ever!!

I was down there for 2 days..July 29th & 30th. GORGEOUS pieces, over 400!!

I'm still on cloud 9.

  • Found 12 blues, a huge amethyst piece, LOTS of clear & different shades of green, and of course, a cazillion pieces of browns.

  • And the Crown Jewel, a marble!! All the pieces I keep are heavily frosted with the rounded edges.

  • There are "hundreds" of pieces of what I call "fresh glass" (none or very little frosting).

  • I don't even bother bending over to pick them up..I'm 5'10"..it's a LONG way to the ground.

  • Found 8 pieces of pottery, some very pretty coke pieces & a clear Dr. Pepper piece.

I thought Dr. Pepper bottles were green?
  • Also, 4 bonfire pieces, 2 green and 2 clear. You can actually see the sand around parts of each piece that has melted. Very pretty and unusual.

  • Also found 2 hamburger seed pods.

I am trying to send a pic, but I'm doing something wrong.

I will get my daughter to help when they get back from vacation in a few days.

High Island, TX Sea Glass

Just returned 7-11-10 from High Island after a day looking for sea glass!

~ submitted by Kay Carruth from High Island, Texas, USA

Just returned 7-11-10 from High Island after a day looking for sea glass & other interesting stuff.

The road from High Island to Galveston had been closed for a couple of days after the hurricane in the gulf due to water over the road.

I got down there 2 days after the road had opened back up.

All the sand etc., had been pushed off the road into piles.

I was trying to imagine how many thousands of pieces of sea glass had been covered up!!

I found over 300 pieces in a matter of 4 hrs., very heavily frosted pieces that are simply beautiful.

I found the most common colors, shades of green, brown & clear.

The crown jewel was 3 pieces of blue, 1 pink & 1 purple.

I have found blues down there but NEVER a pink or a purple...I was elated!!!!

The sad part about this is there is now OIL (YUCK) in small spots on the beach thanks to BP.
